New Nissan Rogue impresses. Along with the split/ folding rear seats and privacy cover comes a cargo organizer.The organizer is bundled up in the Premium package, I think the name Rogue is quite befitting for this cute Ute since it just sounds good.Test drive New 2010 Nissan Rogue in Toronto.
Whether I was on the road heading to work, or cruising along at highway speeds, the Rogue’s front independent strut and rear multi-link independent suspension made for a nice ride. Also considering the SL had the AWD system, I didn’t find it too stiff or tedious to maneuver in. After all, the Rogue does have speed-sensitive power-assisted steering, so whether I was going 10km/h or 100km/h, the steering adjusted to my driving needs.
 
Space? There's plenty! With the rear seats upright, there's 28.9 cubic feet of cargo room and 57.9 cu. ft. with the seats folded flat. Another bonus -- also part of the Premium package -- is a fold-flat front passenger's seat. This allows an eight-foot ladder to be carried inside the vehicle with the tailgate closed -- an advantage as it eliminates the risk of exhaust fumes entering the cabin if the tailgate has to be left open. However, the seat back is covered in fabric; a hard plastic shell would make more sense.
 
Mechanically, the Rogue's 2.5-litre four-cylinder is a smooth operator that churns out 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, enough to get the crossover to 100 kilo-metres an hour in 8.7 seconds, which is respectable. Power is relayed to the road through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). I despise these things. Mat the gas and one thing happens -- the engine is pushed to redline and there it stays until the driver eventually backs off. Usually, it is the monotonous drone battering the riders that forces the driver to lift. Fortunately,
The Rogue's CVT has a saving grace -- steering wheelmounted paddle shifters (yet another piece of the Premium package), which allow the driver to paddle through six pre-determined ratios. The reason it makes such a difference is that the slight drop in revs accompanying each upshift alters the engine's tone, which breaks up the cacophony. This makes hard acceleration a far more palatable venture. Sometimes, it is the simplest things that make the bigger difference.
