The much anticipated April edition Consumer Reports is on the newsstands and it has selected the 4 cylinder Altima as its top-rated family sedan!!
Consumer Reports cited Altima's top fuel economy, appealing balance of
comfort and performance, roomy well-finished and quiet cabin as reasons why
it was ranked number 1!
Changes for 2010 are a restyled front fascia with new grille, new wheel designs, standard Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) on all models, revised interior fabrics and finishers, new exterior colours and revised option packages with more technology than ever before. In addition, the previous Altima 3.5 SE designation has been renamed the 3.5 SR.
The "entertainment factor" of Altima's interior has been upgraded with new available premium audio packages that include a Bose(R) AM/FM audio system with nine speakers, 4.3-inch colour display, USB port with iPod(R) connectivity, Bluetooth(R) Hands-free Phone System, MP3/WMA CD-ROM playback, XM(R) Satellite Radio (XM(R) subscription required, sold separately) and RearView Monitor.
The biggest improvements are inside, where revised fabrics and materials give the look and feel of quality. And the old gauges, which had orange markings and were not especially easy to read, have been replaced by new ones with white lettering.
Also available with Altima Sedan, Coupe and Hybrid models is a next-generation Nissan Hard Drive Navigation System with 6.5-inch VGA colour display (replaces the 4.3-inch display), 9.3GB Music Box for music storage and playback, Bluetooth(R) Streaming Audio, DVD playback and an RCA input for auxiliary audio/video connectivity.
2010 Altima 2.5 S with the SL option package (leather, premium audio, heated seats, etc.). As expected, it drives identical to the 2009 model -- meaning the sedan is comfortable and confident around town, and relaxed on the highway. The CVT mannerisms are noticeable at first, especially to someone coming from a traditional stepped-gear automatic, but it's a good match for the four-cylinder powerplant, doing a great of job squeezing all the power out. The 2.5-liter is more than adequate for the Altima, and the reward is highway fuel economy topping 30 MPG. With more than 60 percent of the curb weight over the front wheels, and a suspension tuned for comfort, the front-wheel drive Altima four-door will never be confused with a performance sedan.
