Ford has leading edge technology, mechanics and design elements into the DNA of the F-150. Its very frame is the strongest in its class, comprised of fully boxed high- strength steel and through-welded crossbeams. Either a 4.6-liter 3-valve SOHC V8 engine or a 5.4-liter 3-valve SOHC V8 engine, both with 6-speed automatic transmission, power the F-150. 

The tow capacity has been described as best-in-class with standard Trailer Sway Control (TSC) or an available factory-installed Trailer Brake Controller System allowing complete control of the cargo load. The  F-150 has larger than average four-wheel power anti-lock brakes that allow for stopping on a dime.
